Get an Extra Buck Card

CVS has a loyalty card program that rewards you for buying certain items and you will get 2% back on all purchases. It’s similar to the loyalty program that many other stores have. You can get your own Extra Care Card at your local CVS, by filling out a short application. Once you get home be sure to register online so you can use your phone number if you forget it. Plus you’ll get a nice coupon too!

Scan Your Card

  1. SCAN YOUR CARD. There are coupon scanners aka price checkers generally located near the front of each store where you can scan your card and coupons will print. This is also where you do your price checking.
  2. Always have the cashier scan your card before scanning items. You could be throwing away money otherwise because of the Extra Bucks you earn.

Earn Extra Bucks

Extra Bucks (aka Extra Care Bucks or ECB) are like money at CVS and commonly referred to as ECB or ECBs. They are at the bottom of your receipt or when you scan your card at the card scanning machine.

Extra Buck Example

You can buy Trident Vitality Gum for 99¢ and get an Extra Care Buck for 99¢. Now add coupons to the mix and save even more! See example below…

Trident Vitality or Stride Spark Gum 99¢, Earn 99¢ ECBs *limit 1
– $1/2 Trident Vitality Gum Coupon (4/3 SS)
= 98¢, Earn 99¢ ECB
= 2 FREE

As you can see, there is a limit of 1 on Trident Vitality, so you will only earn a 99¢ ECB despite the fact you are purchasing 2.  One will be free from the ECB and the other FREE from using the coupon.

Rolling Your Extra Bucks

This is the term for when you take the Extra Bucks you’ve earned and apply them towards your next transaction or shopping trip. Here is an example from the CVS ad good through 5/28/11.

Transaction #1 *from the scenario above:

2 Trident Vitality or Stride Spark Gum 99¢, Earn 99¢ ECBs *limit 1
– $1/2 Trident Vitality Gum Coupon (4/3 SS)
= Pay 98¢, Earn 99¢ ECB
= 2 FREE

Transaction #2

1 Revlon Nail Polish $4.99, Earn $4 ECBs *limit 6
– $2/1 Revlon Coupon (5/8 SS)
– 99¢ ECB from 1st transaction
= Pay $2, Earn $4 ECBs
= FREE + $2 Profit

Transaction #3

2 Irish Spring Body Wash or Irish Spring Deodorant $3.50, Buy 2, Earn $5 ECBs *limit 1
– (2) $1/1 Irish Spring CVS Coupon (Reinventing Beauty Magazine)
– $4 ECB from 2nd transaction
= Pay $1, Earn $5 ECBs
= FREE + $4 Profit

If you did the scenarios above, you paid only $3.98 out-of-pocket for 2 packs of gum, 1 nail polish, and 2 body washes!  And now you have $5 ECBs from the Irish Spring deal to use on another transaction, or on your next trip!  Isn’t that awesome?!

Quarterly Extra Bucks

This is the Extra Buck you get back from your in-store and online shopping trips each quarter. They are 2% of purchases you made for the quarter. If you spend $100 you will get $2 in Extra Bucks. Certain times of the year CVS will offer Triple Extra Bucks during a quarter making it 6% back.

Extra Bucks on Rx Purchases

CVS will give you $1 Extra Buck for every 2 prescriptions purchased in store or online when you give your Extra Care Card before purchase.
