My Shopping Trips

I realize that not everyone can still price match meats at your local Walmart, but I wanted to highlight the savings you can get, if you can.

Don’t you just love finding deals on items that you really, really need? Today was one of those days where I was able to restock my freezer with various cuts of chicken, for very little money. Usually when I purchase the 10-lb bag of chicken leg quarters, I immediately boil the entire bag in a large stock pot, cool, shred and freeze in 2 to 3-cup portions for quick meals.  Then, I make my own chicken broth by putting the bones and skin in my 6-qt crockpot, filling with water, adding 1 Tbsp vinegar and cooking on low for at least 12 hours.

From the two bags of chicken leg quarters, I should get at least 5 meals; from the boneless skinless chicken breasts, 3 meals; and from the chicken drumsticks 2 meals. That comes to $1.06 per meal for my family of four.  And that doesn’t include the gallon or more of homemade chicken broth that I will freeze and use for soups.

Here are the deals I scored:

WMShoppingTripOnce again today I was told “wow, you’re so organized.  I could never do that [couponing]!”

That got me to thinking again about why I coupon. Couponing, price matching and shopping sales is a huge part of what allows me to be a stay-at-home mom and wife, and getting to be those two things makes the little bit of time spent each week well worth it!

Today I spent only $55.40 on fifty five items that will either be used during the next week for meals, be taken to an upcoming homeschool meeting or added to my stockpile. Once I made it home, I snapped pictures of my receipt and redeemed multiple app offers (iBotta, Snap, Checkout51) and have already been credited $3.63, making my total spent on this shopping trip only $51.77.

Keep in mind that my stockpile contains enough chicken to get me by until another great sale comes around, and I am blessed to have homegrown beef and eggs, so I did not need to purchase meat this week.

So, yes, you can do it, too!

TGT TripDoes anyone else find it difficult to shop at Target?  Between trying to use and stack sales, multiple mobile coupon text offers, Cartwheel deals and manufacturer coupons, I find it’s very time consuming to make a list – and make sure the items ring up as they should and the appropriate offers used (and taken off at the register).

Despite the work, I am so excited to have gotten these deals on allergy medicine … and the other deals that I found yesterday afternoon.

ShoppingTrip 10-17

I am once again on a quest to use up a variety of items that I have in the freezer and pantry, all before we butcher a calf in early Spring and before things in the pantry expire.  So, for the next several weeks I’ll only be purchasing fresh fruits, vegetables and knock-out deals.

Here was my weekly shopping trip:

(1) Egg Nog $2.50 (the boys have been begging for egg nog, so this was a splurge!)

(1) Assorted Pork Sirloin Chops (was $3.08 lb – $8.44) 78¢ lb *price matched Malone’s

(4.33 lbs) Gala Apples 77¢ lb *price matched United (Robert took some to work, so they are not all pictured)
= $3.33

(1) Celery 69¢ *price matched El Rio

(3.23 lbs) Bananas (was 52¢ lb) 25¢ lb *price matched El Rio
= 81¢

(.99 lb) Zucchini 69¢ lb *price matched Aldi
= 68¢

(2.61 lbs) Yams 47¢ lb *price matched El Ahorro
= $1.23

(1) Cucumber 33¢ *rollback

I had intended to write down the regular price of each item, so I would know the exact dollar amount I saved, but I was in a time-crunch to get to our bi-weekly homeschool meeting so it didn’t get done.

Have an awesome shopping trip you’d like to share with others?  Send me a photo and the information on your trip.
